ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thracian language

Hello! Today we will talk about the Thracian language. Thracian is a very old language that was spoken a long time ago in what is now known as Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, and Romania.

The Thracian language is different from the languages that are spoken in those countries today. It is what we call an extinct language, which means that no one speaks it anymore. But we can still learn about it from the things that the ancient Thracians wrote down and from the things that people wrote about them.

The ancient Thracians were people who lived a very long time ago, before there were computers or cars or even cities like we have today. They lived in small villages and worked on farms and in fields. They had their own language, which they used to communicate with each other and with other people they met along the way.

The Thracian language was made up of different sounds, just like English or any other language. It was written in a special way using characters that we call an alphabet. The Thracians used their language to tell stories, sing songs, and share their ideas and feelings.

One interesting thing about the Thracian language is that we don't know a lot about it. That's because the Thracians didn't leave a lot of written records behind, and the ones they did have been lost over time. This makes it hard for us to understand what the language sounded like or what it meant.

Even though we can't speak or understand Thracian today, it is still important to learn about it because it helps us understand the history and culture of the ancient people who spoke it. So, even though we can't talk to the Thracians, we can still learn a lot from their language.
