ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thread pitch

Thread pitch is like the distance between the teeth on a comb. You know how when you comb your hair, the teeth are really close together or far apart? It's the same with threads, which are the ridges and grooves on screws, bolts, or nuts. The thread pitch is how far apart these ridges are from each other.

Imagine you have two screws, one with big ridges and one with small ridges. The one with big ridges has a bigger thread pitch because the ridges are farther apart. The one with small ridges has a smaller thread pitch because the ridges are closer together.

Now, if you want to screw a nut onto a bolt, you need to make sure they have the same thread pitch. Otherwise, they won't fit together properly. It's like trying to put a big-toothed comb through a small-toothed comb's hair—it just won't work!

Different types of screws, bolts, and nuts will have different thread pitches. Some will be big and some will be small, just like the teeth on different combs. You need to make sure you have the right thread pitch for whatever you're trying to screw together, or else it won't work.
