ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Toll-like receptor

Okay kiddo, so imagine your body is like a castle and it has guards standing at the gate. These guards are like the toll-like receptors in your body. They help protect the castle from bad guys like bacteria, viruses, and other harmful things.

The toll-like receptors are a type of protein that live on the surface of different types of cells in your body. When a bad guy tries to enter your castle (or body), these toll-like receptors recognize the bad guy and sound the alarm.

The alarm then sends a message to your immune system which is like an army. Your army then sends its own soldiers to attack the bad guy and keep your castle (or body) safe.

Just like guards at a gate, toll-like receptors are important for keeping you healthy and safe from harmful invaders.
