Tonne of oil equivalent

A tonne of oil equivalent is a measure of how much energy something contains. It is equal to approximately 42,000 kilowatt hours, or the energy that would come from burning one tonne, or 1,000 kilograms, of oil. That is a lot of energy! For example, that amount of energy could power your home for about three years. That's a lot of power!
