ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Truism

A truism is something that we all know is true without anyone needing to explain it to us. Imagine you ask someone if eating food is important to stay healthy, and they say "yes, it is". This is a truism because everyone knows that we need to eat food to survive and stay healthy.

A truism is like a fact that everyone already knows. It's something that is so obvious that nobody can really argue with it because it's already commonly understood. For example, another truism might be that the sky is blue.

Sometimes people use truisms to state the obvious or to sound like they're not saying anything controversial. But other times, truisms can be helpful because they remind us of things that we might have forgotten or overlooked. Either way, truisms are something that we can all agree on, and that's why they're so important.
