Tsarist autocracy was a type of government that existed in Russia for many centuries before the Russian Revolution in 1917. In this form of government, one person, called the tsar, had total control over the country and its people. The tsar had the power to make laws, decide who was in charge of the government, and even choose who was allowed to live in the country. This meant that the tsar had the power to do whatever they wanted without anyone else being able to stop them. This type of government ended after the Russian Revolution, when the people of Russia decided that they wanted to have a different type of government.
