ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tychism

Tychism is a big word that means the belief that chance and randomness play a big role in how things happen in the world.

Imagine playing with toy blocks. Sometimes you might plan out what you want to build and put the blocks together in a certain way. Other times, you might just grab some blocks and see what you can make by randomly putting them together.

Tychism is a bit like that second way of playing with blocks. It suggests that sometimes things happen without anyone planning them out, and that randomness plays a big part in how they turn out.

For example, think of a flower growing in a field. Its petals might grow in a certain pattern, but that pattern might not have been planned by anyone. It's just the way the flower grew because of things like sunlight, water, and soil.

Tychism also suggests that things can happen in unpredictable ways. Sometimes, two things that seem like they should go together might not match up at all. Or, something that we don't think will happen might end up happening anyway.

Overall, tychism is a way of thinking that suggests that chance and randomness are important parts of how the world works.
