ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ultrashort pulse

Ultrashort pulse refers to a type of light beam that lasts a very short amount of time, like a blink of an eye. Just like how we can see things when we open and close our eyes quickly, scientists can use lasers to make really short bursts of light that allow them to see and measure things that happen incredibly fast, like atoms moving and molecules changing shape. These bursts are so short that they can even freeze motion in time, like taking a snapshot of a fast-moving object. It's kind of like using a super-fast camera to take pictures that happen in just trillionths of a second!
