Umvolkung is a German word that means "to change a people's ethnic identity". It did not have a good meaning in history and it was a term used during World War II. During that time, it was used by Nazi Germany to describe their policy of forced movement and relocation of people from all around Europe. This policy was cruel and involved forcing people from different backgrounds and religions out of their homes in order to make Germany more ethnically homogeneous, or more similar in terms of racial or religious identity. People were taken away from their homes and put into concentration camps or refugee camps, some of which were very harsh. This was a terrible thing to do and it caused a lot of pain and suffering to millions of people. Fortunately, umvolkung is not something that happens today and it is important to remember history so that we can learn from it and make sure something like this never happens again.
