Urethrotomy

Urethrotomy is when doctors use a special tool to make a small cut in a part of our body called the urethra. The urethra is like a tiny tube that lets pee come out of our body. Sometimes, the urethra can get blocked or narrow, which can make it hard to pee.

When a doctor does a urethrotomy, they want to make the urethra bigger and wider so that pee can flow more easily. First, they will give you some special medicine to make you sleep so you don't feel any pain. Once you're asleep, the doctor will use a special tool called a urethrotome. It is like a small knife or scissors but very tiny.

The doctor will gently put the urethrotome into your urethra and carefully make a small cut in the area that is narrow or blocked. This cut helps to make the urethra wider so that pee can pass through it more easily. After the cut is made, the doctor may put a tiny tube called a catheter in your urethra to keep it open and to let any pee drain out.

After the urethrotomy, you might feel a little sore in your pee area. But don't worry! The doctor will give you some medicine to help with the pain. You may also need to take some medicine to prevent infections. Your doctor will tell you what to do and how to take care of yourself after the procedure. It's important to drink a lot of water and follow your doctor's instructions to help your urethra heal.
