Vector bornology

Vector borne diseases are illnesses that are spread by tiny bugs like mosquitoes, ticks, and flies. These bugs are called vectors because they carry germs from one person or animal to another.

When a mosquito, for example, bites a person or animal that is infected with a virus or bacteria, the bug sucks up some of the germs along with its meal. The mosquito then can pass on the germs to another person or animal it bites.

Vector borne diseases can cause a variety of different symptoms, from mild fevers and headaches to more serious illnesses like malaria or Lyme disease. Some of these diseases can even be deadly if not properly treated.

To protect yourself from vector borne diseases, it's important to take steps to avoid being bitten by these bugs. This might mean wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent, and avoiding areas with lots of bugs. It's also important to get vaccinated against certain diseases, like tick-borne encephalitis or yellow fever, if you plan to travel to areas where these illnesses are common.
