Vestibulo–ocular reflex

Your eyes and ears work together to help you keep your balance and see things clearly. The vestibulo-ocular reflex is a fancy way of describing how your eyes automatically move when your head moves.

Imagine you're sitting on a swing that's going back and forth. When you look straight ahead, your eyes are looking at the same spot the whole time. But when you turn your head to the side, your eyes have to move to keep looking at the same spot. That's the vestibulo-ocular reflex in action!

Your ears have special parts inside them that can sense movement. When you move your head, these parts send signals to your brain to tell it which way your head is moving. Your brain takes this information and tells your eyes to move the right way to keep looking at the same spot.

This reflex happens so quickly and automatically that you don't even realize it's happening. It's like magic! But it's an important part of how your body works, helping you keep your balance and see things clearly no matter how much you move your head.
