Vigil (liturgy)

A vigil in liturgy is like waiting for something really important to happen. You know how sometimes Christmas Eve feels like a day all on its own because you're so excited for Christmas Day? A vigil is kind of like that.

In the Catholic Church, a vigil is usually held the night before an important feast day or event. During the vigil, people come together to pray and prepare themselves for what's coming. It's like getting ready for a party by cleaning your room and putting on your best clothes.

During the vigil, there might be special prayers, readings from the Bible, and even music. Everyone who comes to the vigil is there to show their love and devotion to God and get ready for the important event that's coming up.

So if you ever hear someone talking about going to a vigil, just know that they're getting ready for something special and important. And if you ever go to a vigil yourself, you can feel excited and happy knowing that you're part of something important too!
