ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Visual effects

Visual effects, or VFX for short, are special effects created using computer technology that can be added to videos, movies, television shows, and even video games. They make things that look impossible or dangerous happen on screen, like making a superhero fly or bringing a dinosaur back to life.

To create visual effects, artists use special computer programs and software that allow them to create and manipulate images, 3D models, and animations. They can add different colors, create explosions, change backgrounds or scenery, and even create creatures that don't exist in real life.

Good visual effects make the movie or video game look more realistic and exciting. For example, if a character in a movie has to jump out of a plane, but the actor can't really do that, then the visual effects team can add in a parachute, and make it look like the character is actually jumping from a plane.

In summary, visual effects are digital techniques that are used to create illusions in movies and video games. They are made by using powerful computers and software to create animations, 3D models, and different special effects. VFX help to make movies and games seem more realistic and exciting.
