ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

War children

War children are kids who grow up in places where there is a lot of fighting and violence going on. This can happen during a war, when different sides are fighting each other. Sometimes these kids are forced to leave their homes and become refugees, which means they have to move to a safe place where they can be protected from the fighting. Other times, the kids may stay in their homes but have to deal with bombings and other scary things that can happen during a war.

Being a war child can be really tough. It can be difficult to feel safe or to have enough food, water, or medicine. War children may also have to stop going to school or playing with their friends because it’s not safe to do so. They may see really scary things or lose people they love, which can be really hard to deal with.

But there are people who want to help war children. Aid groups and charities work to provide food, shelter, and medical care for these kids. They try to help them feel safe and support them as much as they can. Sometimes people from other countries may also step in to offer help or to try and bring an end to the war itself.

Overall, while being a war child can be scary and difficult, there are people who want to help and support them during this tough time.
