Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive

So, you know how sometimes when you are done playing with your toys, you don't want to keep them anymore and they just sit in a pile in your room?

Well, when grown-ups use electronic things like TVs, computers, and phones for a long time and they don't want them anymore, it's called electronic waste or e-waste.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is a rule that grown-ups have to follow to make sure they get rid of their electronic waste the right way.

This means that instead of just throwing their old electronics in the trash where it can hurt the environment, they have to take it to a special place that can recycle it or get rid of it safely.

Recycling means that the parts of an old electronic thing can be taken apart and used to make new things instead of just throwing them away.

So, the WEEE Directive is a rule that helps people get rid of their old electronics in a way that doesn't hurt the world around us.
