Weathering is when things outside like rocks, mountains, and buildings are slowly broken down over time by things like wind, rain, and temperature changes.
Picture a sandcastle at the beach. When the waves hit it, some of the sand breaks off and falls into the water. Over time, the sandcastle gets smaller and smaller until it's eventually gone.
The same thing happens to rocks and mountains. Rain can get into tiny cracks in the rock and freeze, breaking the rock apart. Wind can blow sand and dirt against a mountain, slowly wearing it down.
Even buildings can be affected by weathering. Rain and wind can slowly wear away at the materials they are made of, making them weaker and more likely to fall apart.
So weathering is just like the slow wearing down of things outside over time by different weather conditions.
