ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Weighted arithmetic mean

Okay, kiddo, let's say you have some candies of different colors, like red, green, yellow and blue. Now let's say you want to find out what the most popular color of candy is among your friends.

But wait, some of your friends have more candies than others. So you need to be fair and give more importance to the opinions of your friends who have more candies. This is where the weighted arithmetic mean comes in.

Basically, you add up the number of candies for each color and then divide it by the total number of candies overall. But when you divide, you give more weight (or importance) to the friends who have more candies.

So if your friend who has the most candies says red is their favorite color, that will count more than if your friend who only has two candies says the same thing.

In simple terms, it's like taking an average but making sure to give more importance to the opinions of people who have more candies.
