Whiteness is a way of measuring the lightness of a color. It's how light or dark a color is, from white (the lightest) to black (the darkest). To measure whiteness we use something called colorimetry, which is a way of measuring the color of light. Colorimetry uses special instruments called spectrophotometers to measure the color of things. Spectrophotometers measure the amount of each color, from red to blue, that are reflected off of an object. The higher the amount of each color that is reflected off an object, the closer the object is to being perfectly white.
