Woodblock printing

Have you ever played with stamps or made prints with paint and your hands? Well, woodblock printing is something like that but with wood and ink!

First, an artist takes a piece of wood and carves out a design or picture onto the surface. They may use special tools like knives or chisels to carve into the wood.

Once the design is carved out, ink is applied to the surface of the woodblock. The ink sticks to the raised parts of the design and not the areas that have been carved out.

Next, a piece of paper is placed over the inked woodblock, and pressure is applied by rubbing or pressing down on the paper. This transfers the inked design onto the paper.

And voila! You have a beautiful print made from a woodblock.

Woodblock printing has been used for thousands of years in many cultures. People used to use it to make books, art prints, and even money! Nowadays, it's a popular technique for artists who want to create unique and handmade prints.
