Workhouse

A workhouse was a place in the past where people who didn't have a home or a job could stay and work. It was like a big house, where everyone had a bunk bed, and each person had a job to do. Some of the jobs were cooking meals, cleaning and repairing clothes, and mending shoes. All of the people who lived in the workhouse had to do their jobs to help keep the place running, and they shared the same meals. It was a hard life, but at least they had a place to stay and food to eat.
