ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur is a Jewish holiday. On this special day, Jewish people take time to remember and ask for forgiveness from God for their mistakes from the past year. They try to make up for the bad things they did and ask forgiveness for any wrongdoings. Some activities that help people think about their mistakes on Yom Kippur include praying, fasting, and attending services. Fasting means not eating any food or drinks for a whole day. The services at the synagogue involve singing special songs and prayers, and listening to readings. Yom Kippur is a time to start over and be a better person.
