ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Z-order (curve)

Z-order curves are like a way of organizing things in a sensible order. Imagine you have a bunch of dots on a piece of paper. You can arrange those dots in any order you want, but sometimes it's helpful to arrange them in a way that's easy to understand. Z-Order Curves are one way to do that. With a Z-Order Curve, the dots are organized in a pattern that looks a bit like a spiral, with the first dot at the center and then going in a circle around the center. The next dot is above the first dot, and then it spirals around the center in a clockwise direction. The next dot is to the right of the second dot and it spirals around in a counter-clockwise direction. It keeps going in this pattern until all the dots are arranged in a spiral shape. So, Z-Order Curves help you organize things in a way that's easy to understand.
