Mound builder (people)

So, a long time ago, there were these people called mound builders. They lived in places that we now call North America.

These people were really good at building things. And what they built were big mounds of dirt and soil. You might have seen a little mound before, like a hill in a park or something. These mounds were much bigger than that.

The mound builders built these mounds for different reasons. Some mounds were used as burial sites for important people in their community. Others were used as platforms for their homes or for important buildings.

The mound builders were really good at working together to make these mounds. They would use tools like shovels and baskets to move the dirt and soil around. People would work together to move the dirt up the mound in baskets, just like you might use a bucket to move sand at the beach.

Today, we can still see some of the mounds that the mound builders made. They are really big and impressive! And they tell us a lot about the people who made them and lived in North America a long, long time ago.
