Ásatrú (pronounced aw-SAH-troo) is an old religion that was practiced in the Nordic countries thousands of years ago. The religion was based around the Norse gods, such as Odin and Thor. The followers of Ásatrú would honor these gods and sometimes make offerings of food and drink to them. They also believed in fate, and that one's fate was determined by the gods. The followers of Ásatrú would also celebrate the changing of the seasons and the different holidays that were important in the Norse culture, such as the Summer Solstice and the Winter Solstice. People who practice Ásatrú today are sometimes called Ásatrúar, and they still honor the same gods and believe in the same values as their ancestors did.
