ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Śarīra

Hello little one! Today we're going to talk about a word called śarīra.

Now, imagine your body. Everything that you can see and touch is a part of your body. Your arms, legs, head, fingers, and toes - these are all parts of what we call the physical body.

The word śarīra refers to the physical body too, but not just the parts that you can see and touch. It includes all the insides too! Your bones, muscles, organs, and blood - all of these are parts of the śarīra.

The interesting thing about the word śarīra is that it's not just about your physical body. It's also about your mind and your spirit. You see, in India (where the word śarīra comes from), people believe that there are three parts to a person - the physical body (which we just talked about), the mind (which is where your thoughts and emotions come from), and the spirit (which is sometimes called the soul).

So, when someone says śarīra, they might be talking about just the physical body, but they could also be talking about the whole person - body, mind, and spirit!

I hope that helps you understand what śarīra means! Remember, it's not just about the parts of your body that you can see and touch - it's also about your mind and your spirit.
