Algiers putsch of 1961

Okay kiddo, so let me tell you a story about something called the Algiers Putsch. It happened in the year 1961 in a place called Algeria which is in Africa.

So, back in the day, Algeria was ruled by a group of people who lived in a faraway land called France. Some people in Algeria didn't like this and wanted to be independent and rule themselves. They were called nationalists.

There were also some soldiers in Algeria, who were supposed to follow the orders of the French government, but they didn't like what was happening either. They felt that the French government was not doing enough to protect their rights and the rights of people in Algeria.

So, some of these soldiers got together and formed a group called the Organisation Armée Secrète or OAS for short. They wanted to take control of Algeria and make it an independent country on their own terms.

In 1961, some of these OAS soldiers decided to take action and take control of the French government in Algeria. They did this by trying to arrest some of the important French officials who were living in Algeria at the time.

Unfortunately, their plan didn't work and they were caught. The French government didn't like what they had done and punished them.

So, that's the story of the Algiers Putsch. Some people in Algeria wanted to be independent and some soldiers tried to help them, but things didn't go as planned.
