ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Aluminized cloth

Aluminized cloth is like a shiny, silver blanket made of a special fabric that’s coated in a thin layer of aluminum. The fabric is made from tiny threads of materials like nylon, fiberglass or polyester (which are kind of like different types of strings) that have been woven together to create a strong piece of cloth.

The aluminum coating on the fabric makes it really good at reflecting heat and light. Just like how a mirror reflects your face, the shiny surface of the aluminized cloth reflects things like heat and light waves. This makes it useful for things like fire suits and welding gear where people need to be protected from heat and sparks.

The cloth can also insulate things by trapping heat inside, like when you wear a jacket on a cold day. This makes it good for things like oven mitts and heat shields for spacecraft.

So, basically, aluminized cloth is a special type of shiny, reflective fabric that’s really good at protecting people and things from heat and light.
