Apophatic theology is a type of theology that is focused on understanding God without using words or physical images. Instead, it uses negative statements, such as what God is not, to describe God. We often use this approach because God is so much bigger and greater than anything we can imagine. It's like trying to describe the ocean to someone who has never seen it before. You can't really use words to explain how big it is, or how many fish are in it, or what the water looks like. So, you might say things like, "it's really big, and it's filled with lots of life," which don't really explain the ocean, but give a way for people to think about it. Apophatic theology works in a similar way, by helping us think about God without actually trying to explain Him.
