Artillery is like a really big toy that soldiers play with to shoot at bad guys who are far away.
So, imagine you have a really big cannon or gun that shoots big bullets (called shells) that explode when they hit something. These big bullets can go really far away, even miles!
But, it’s hard for a person to lift and aim the cannon, so soldiers have machines to help them. They have big trucks and tanks, called artillery pieces, that can carry the cannon around with them. The soldiers can then aim the cannon at the bad guys from a safe distance.
To shoot the cannon, the soldiers have to do a lot of things. They have to put the bullet (shell) in the cannon, make sure it's pointing the right way, and set the right amount of gunpowder to make the bullet go just the right distance.
When the soldier is ready, they yell “Fire!” and the cannon shoots the big bullet towards the bad guys. The bullet explodes when it hits something and can hurt or even kill the bad guys.
So, in summary, artillery is like a big toy for soldiers that shoots really big bullets from far away to attack the bad guys.
