ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Autocephaly

Have you ever played with blocks before? Imagine there are a bunch of different blocks that are all part of a big tower. Each block represents a different church.

Now imagine that the top block of the tower is called the "Mother Church." This block is like the leader of all the other blocks and tells them what to do. But sometimes, the other blocks want to be their own leader and not listen to the Mother Church anymore.

When this happens, the top block can give a special permission to one of the other blocks to become its own leader. This is called "autocephaly." It's like saying, "Okay, little block, you can be your own leader now and not have to follow the rules of the Mother Church anymore."

But even though the little block is its own leader now, it still wants to be friends with the other blocks and be part of the big tower. So it still believes in the same things as the other churches and they all work together to spread their message.
