ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Barrel (unit)

A barrel is like a big container for oil and other liquids that's used all around the world. It's kind of like a soda bottle, but way bigger!

When we talk about a barrel, we're usually talking about the size of the container. It's actually equal to 42 gallons, which is enough to fill up a small bathtub all the way to the top.

People started using barrels a long time ago, before there were cars and trains to transport liquids from one place to another. They would fill the barrels up with things like wine or honey, and then put them on a horse-drawn wagon or a boat to take to a different town.

Nowadays, some types of liquids, like oil, are still measured in barrels. It helps people understand how much of something there is and how much it's worth.

So, a barrel is just a big container that helps people measure how much oil or other liquids there are.
