ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Battle-axe (woman)

Okay, so you know how sometimes people use words to describe other people? Like calling someone "funny" or "smart"? Well, one word that some people use to describe a woman is "battle-axe".

Now, a battle-axe is actually a type of weapon that people used to use a long time ago. It looks kind of like a big, heavy stick with a sharp blade on the end. People would use it to fight in battles.

When people call a woman a "battle-axe", they're not saying that she's actually carrying around a big weapon. Instead, they're using the word to mean that she's really tough and strong, maybe even a little bit mean or aggressive.

But it's not a very nice word to use, because it's kind of saying that women who are tough and strong are bad or scary. So we shouldn't use it, and we should remember that women can be just as strong and tough as anyone else, and that's a good thing!
