Biochemical genetics

Biochemical genetics is like a big puzzle! Your puzzle pieces are different chemicals called molecules that work together to make your body work properly.

Each person’s puzzle is a little different, so it’s important to know what makes up each piece so we can figure out how they all fit together. Scientists who study biochemical genetics try to figure out how certain things, like your eye color, your height, or how your body fights off diseases, are determined by these molecules.

Think of it like this: you have a recipe for your body that your DNA gives you. The DNA recipe tells your body which chemicals to make, which are called enzymes. The enzymes are like little workers, moving around in your body and doing different jobs.

For example, one enzyme helps break down the food you eat so your body can use it for energy. Another enzyme helps repair damage to your skin. Scientists studying biochemical genetics want to learn all about these enzymes and what they do so they can understand how they help us grow, learn, and stay healthy.
