ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biomass (ecology)

Biomass is the total amount of living things in an area. It's usually expressed as the total weight of all the living things in a certain place. Biomass helps us measure the health of an ecosystem, which is the environment where all the living things work together. We can learn a lot about an ecosystem by looking at the amount and types of living things in it. That's why biomass is so important to ecologists - it can help us understand how healthy an ecosystem is and how different animals, plants, and other living things interact with each other.
