ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Building material

Building material is what people use to build things like houses, schools, and hospitals. Building materials can be very different from each other, but they all have to be strong and safe to use. Imagine you are building a tower with blocks, but instead of blocks, grown-ups use different materials like wood, metal, and even rocks.

Some of the most common building materials include bricks, concrete, wood, and steel. Bricks are small, rectangular blocks made from clay or concrete. They are strong and durable, and people use them to build walls and buildings. Concrete is a mixture of sand, water, and cement. It is also very strong and is used for foundations and floors.

Wood is a natural building material that people have been using for thousands of years. It is strong and easy to work with, but it can rot if it gets wet, so people have to protect it with paint or other coatings. People use wood to make things like houses, furniture, and even toys.

Steel is a type of metal that is very strong and durable. It is used to make beams and other structures that support buildings. Steel is also used in things like cars, airplanes, and bridges.

So, building material is like the building blocks that grown-ups use to build the things we live in and use every day. They can be made of different things like clay, sand, wood, metal, and other materials, but they all have to be strong and safe to use.
