ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chinese patriarchy

Okay kiddo, let me try to explain Chinese patriarchy to you.

In China, a long time ago, people believed that men were better than women. They thought that men should be in charge of everything and that women should do what men told them to do. This idea is called patriarchy.

For a really long time, Chinese society was dominated by men. Men were the ones who got to go to school, have jobs, and own property. They were the ones who made all the important decisions.

Women, on the other hand, were expected to stay at home and take care of the kids and the house. They weren't allowed to do things that were considered "manly," like studying or working outside the home.

Even though things are better now, there are still lots of places in China where women don't have the same opportunities as men. They might not be treated fairly at work or in their personal lives.

However, there are people in China who are working to change this. They believe that men and women should have equal rights and that women should have the same opportunities as men. It may take some time, but hopefully one day China will be a place where everyone is treated equally, no matter their gender.
