Civilian control of the military

When a country has civilian control of the military, it means that the people in the government (known as civilians) make the decisions about the military, like what it should do and how it should operate. The military is run by military leaders (like generals or admirals), but those leaders follow the orders of the elected officials in the government. That means the people of the country are in charge of the military, instead of just the military itself.
