Clean Water Act

The Clean Water Act is a set of rules that the government made to help keep the water in our rivers, lakes, and oceans clean and safe. It's like a big list of instructions that people and businesses have to follow to make sure they don't pollute the water.

Imagine you are coloring with markers and accidentally spill one on the carpet. Your mom might tell you to grab a towel and clean it up, right? The Clean Water Act is like your mom telling all the big companies to grab a towel when they make a mess in the water.

The Clean Water Act makes it illegal for businesses to dump any harmful substances or chemicals into the water, even if it's on accident. If they do, they can get in trouble and have to pay a fine.

The government also tests the water to make sure it's safe for people to drink, swim in, and for animals to live in. The Clean Water Act makes sure that people and animals can get clean water and stay healthy.
