Clementia

Clemency is when someone is given a punishment that is not as severe as it could be, usually because the person made a mistake or did something wrong, but that person can be forgiven or not punished at all. Clemency usually involves a person who has the power to decide what kind of punishment is fair, like a judge or even a president. They can look at the circumstances of the situation and decide if the punishment should fit the crime. For example, if someone gets in trouble for stealing something from a store, the judge or president might decide to let them off with just a warning instead of a jail sentence.
