Clinical genetics

Clinical genetics is a type of medicine that looks at genes, or the instructions each of us have inside us that make us who we are. Clinical genetics looks for ways to help people stay healthy by understanding how genes work and how they affect our health. Doctors who work in clinical genetics look for patterns in family histories and test results from patients. They then use this information to help them predict how likely a person is to develop a certain disease. They look at genetic changes and figure out what causes a person to be more likely to get a specific disease or condition. By understanding these changes, they can help to prevent, diagnose and treat these diseases or conditions.
