Colonial molasses trade

Okay kiddo, let me tell you a story about a really sweet trade that happened a long time ago!

Back in the olden days, some countries like England decided they really liked a sticky, brown syrup called "molasses". Molasses is made from sugar cane plants and it's really tasty!

However, these countries didn't have a lot of sugar cane plants of their own, so they had to get the molasses from other places. That's where the colonial molasses trade comes in!

Some of these countries set up colonies in places like the Caribbean, which had lots of sugar cane plants. They would send people over there to help grow the sugar cane and make the molasses.

Then, they would bring the molasses back to their own countries to sell it and make lots of money!

But there was a problem. The people who were working on the sugar cane plantations weren't always treated fairly. They were usually slaves or indentured servants, which means they didn't get paid very much and had to work really hard.

So, even though the molasses trade was making some people rich, it wasn't always a happy or fair situation for the people doing the work.

In the end, the colonial molasses trade helped some countries get rich and enjoy a tasty treat, but it also caused a lot of problems and suffering for the people involved.
