ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Color translation

Do you know how we see different colors like red, blue, and green? Our eyes have something called cones that help us see these colors. But in computers and other devices, they use something called RGB which stands for Red, Green, and Blue.

So, when we want to translate a color from one device to another, we need to use something called a color space. Think of it like a map that tells us how much of each color we should add in order to get the right color.

But different devices have different color spaces, which means they might interpret colors differently. For example, one device might have a color space where red is more like orange, while another device might have a color space where red is more like pink.

To translate a color from one device to another, we need to use a special formula that takes into account the differences in color spaces. This formula helps us convert the color from one device's color space to another device's color space, so that we see the same color on both devices.

So, the next time you're looking at a picture on your phone and then on your friend's phone, and the colors look slightly different, know that it's because of color translation and the different color spaces of each device.
