Color vision deficiency is when someone sees colors differently than most other people. A person with color vision deficiency might see colors that look different or might not be able to see certain colors at all.
Imagine you have a box of crayons, and your friend has a box of crayons too. You both have the same box, but your friend might see the colors differently than you. For example, they might not be able to see the color green, or red might look different to them than it does to you.
This happens because of the way our eyes work. Inside our eyes, we have tiny cells called cones that help us see colors. Most people have three types of cones, which let them see a wide range of colors. But some people have fewer or different types of cones, which means they see colors differently.
There are different types of color vision deficiency. A common one is called red-green color blindness, which means the person has a hard time telling the difference between red and green. There are also other types of color blindness where someone might not be able to see blue or yellow.
Color vision deficiency is not something that can be fixed, but it's not a big problem either. A lot of people have it, and they learn to adapt to it. For example, they might learn to look for other clues to figure out what color something is, or they might ask someone else for help.
