ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Communist crimes (legal concept)

Ok kiddo, let me explain communist crimes to you like you are five years old.

Do you know what communism is? It's a political idea that says everyone should share everything equally. In theory, this is great because it means everyone would have enough to eat, a place to live, and equal access to things like healthcare and education.

But in some countries where communism was practiced, like the Soviet Union and China, people didn't have these things. Instead, the government took away people's freedoms and forced them to do things they didn't want to do. This is called a dictatorship.

And sometimes, people who spoke out against the government or didn't agree with communism were punished. They might have been sent to jail or killed, just for having a different opinion. This is where the concept of communist crimes comes in.

Communist crimes are ways that the government violated people's basic human rights in the name of communism. These crimes included things like mass executions, forced labor camps, and torture. These things are illegal and go against what most countries believe are basic human rights.

Today, many countries have laws that say these crimes can be punished, even if they happened a long time ago. This is to make sure that they never happen again.

So, in summary, communist crimes are bad things that happened in the past when governments used communism to take away people's rights and punish them for having a different opinion. And now we have laws to make sure it doesn't happen again.
