ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Decommunization

Alright kiddo, have you ever heard of communism? It's a type of government where everyone is equal and there isn't any private property. Well, a long time ago, some countries tried this kind of government, like the Soviet Union or China.

Unfortunately, not everything went as planned, and some people didn't like it. They thought it was oppressive and made the government too powerful, and they wanted to change things.

So, when these countries transitioned to a different form of government, they started a process called decommunization. That means they wanted to get rid of everything that reminded them of communism, like statues of communist leaders or communist symbols on flags.

Basically, they wanted to erase communism from their history and start fresh with a new government. It's kind of like cleaning your room and getting rid of the things you don't like anymore, except on a much bigger scale!
