Compass rose

Imagine you are looking at a map, which shows you how to get from one place to another. A compass rose is like a little drawing or picture that helps you understand which way is north, south, east, and west on that map.

A compass rose looks like a star with lines coming out of it in different directions. The star in the center shows you where north is, which is the direction that a compass needle points in. The lines coming out of the center are like arrows, each of them showing you which way you can go.

The top line is for north, the bottom line is for south, the line on the right side is for east, and the line on the left side is for west. The other lines in between the four main ones show you the directions in between. Like the line between north and east is called northeast, and the line between south and west is called southwest.

So, whenever you're trying to read a map and figure out which way you need to go, you can use the compass rose to help guide you in the right direction.
