ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Consumer protection

Consumer protection is about making sure that people who buy things get what they pay for and that they are treated fairly by the people and companies they buy from. It's like a shield that protects someone from being taken advantage of or scammed when they're buying things. Companies sometimes do things that are dishonest and the government has made laws to stop them from doing this. These laws help to make sure that people are not taken advantage of and that they get the products and services that were promised.
