Have you ever met someone who you thought was different from you, maybe because they seemed like they were a different race or culture than you? Well, the contact hypothesis is a way to try and make people who are different from each other get along better.
The contact hypothesis says that if you spend time with someone who is different from you, and you work on a task or goal together, you will start to like and understand each other more. The idea is that by spending time together, you can learn that even though you might look or act differently, you still have a lot in common.
For example, let's say you have never met someone who has a different skin color than you. If you spend time with them in a group or doing a task together, you might realize that you have similar interests or hobbies. You might even find out that you have the same favorite TV show or game.
The contact hypothesis might not work for everyone, and it might not work if people have really strong negative feelings towards each other. But in general, it's a way to try and make the world a more understanding and accepting place.
