A copyright troll is a person or company that uses copyright laws to make money. They use the law to threaten people who they say have used copyrighted material (something like a song, movie, or photo) without permission from the copyright holder. The troll says that the person needs to pay money or else they might be sued. Usually, these copyright trolls will offer to settle for much less money than it would cost for a lawsuit so people often pay up to avoid the hassle.
